Jawani Diwani is a story of modern youth; a mirror of campus life and clash of values by a generation gap focused against a family feud.

Vijay Anand-a teenager brought up by his elder brother, an advocate in Bombay High Court, and his doting sister-in-law Madhu—falls in love with Neeta, his classmate in college. They live in a dream world of their own for a while; but suddenly one day Vijay learns that Neeta’s father is none other than Thakur Saheb, who some twenty years ago had severed all connections with his elder brother Ravi who had married his younger sister Madhu against his wishes. The family drama which had turned into a family feud was being enacted again.

Vijay and Neeta who are madly in love with each other decide to elope and refuse to be victimized by the whims of their elders without realizing what is in store for them; they are too young to be able to face the consequences of their actions, yet old enough to know that they ate in love and would like to spend the rest of their lives together. Their attempted elopement gives rise to a scandal which not only revives the old family feud but also starts a student riot which rocks the entire campus.
